Hello, my name is Cristina Sanchez and I’ve been the Director of Admissions and Enrollment at the Lycee Francais of New Orleans since July 2015.
One of the reasons why I was hired and it also was part of the job description, was the ability to translate and be able to communicate with the Latino families in the area.
The fact that French is so much like Spanish since both of them come from Latin and Romance languages.
So the child that already speaks Spanish at home, finds it easier to learn French at school than to a child that only speaks English because the grammatical structure like the verbs are the same thing so it makes more sense to them than to an only English speaker.
It’s the only free and public Lycee Francais in the United States.
The teachers not only come from Spain, they come from Martinique, from African countries where they speak French, a lot of staff members are Hondurans, Mexicans, we are from different parts of the world, all of that creates a nice and positive environment for the children to also have that as an example so that in the future they can go out into the world and communicate, coexist with everyone, and work because they will have a lot of work options.

Hola, mi nombre es Cristina Sánchez y he sido Directora de Admisiones e Inscripciones en el Lycee Francais de Nueva Orleans desde julio de 2015.
Una de las razones por las que me contrataron y también fue parte de la descripción del trabajo, fue la capacidad de traducir y comunicarme con las familias latinas en el área.
El francés es muy parecido al español, ya que ambos provienen de lenguas latinas y romances.
Entonces, el niño que ya habla español en casa, le resulta más fácil aprender francés en la escuela que a un niño que solo habla inglés, porque la estructura gramatical, como los verbos, es la misma, así que tiene más sentido para ellos que para un niño que solo habla inglés.
Es el único Lycee Francais público y gratuito en los Estados Unidos. Los profesores no solo vienen de Francia, vienen de Martinica, de países africanos donde hablan francés, muchos miembros del personal son hondureños, mexicanos, somos de diferentes partes del mundo, todo eso crea un ambiente agradable y positivo para los niños también tienen eso como ejemplo para que en el futuro puedan salir al mundo y comunicarse, coexistir con todos y trabajar porque tendrán muchas opciones de trabajo.
